University of Arizona football a model for bad sportsmanship

I just want to say that the University of Arizona football team will get theirs sometime this season.  They are the perfect model for bad sportsmanship.

This Saturday, they are playing the University of Idaho in Tucson.  I will be the first to say that Idaho was over-matched in this game.  No doubt about that.

As the favorite you want to beat your opponent, but you don’t want to embarrass them.  But at the end of the second half, Arizona got the ball on their 45 yard-line with about 39 seconds to go.  At this time, they had a 35-0 lead.

They then proceeded to air the ball out and call time outs and scored a touchdown with four seconds left.

You just don’t do that.  You take a knew or run a couple of running plays.  As I said, you don’t embarrass the opponent.

Now you are probably saying that Idaho should stop them and if they can’t, then so be it.  But that is not sportsmanship.

Stoops and the University of Arizona showed their true character tonight, they don’t have any.  I hope when they get to the Pac 10 league schedule, they get their throats stomped on and embarrassed.

I don’t usually root for USC, but they play Arizona in Tucson and will definitely be rooting for the men of Troy.

The Democratic National Convention is complete, a tremendous success for Denver

I just want to say, Denver has a lot to be proud of for hosting this years Democratic National Convention.

The final event tonight came off tremendously well and looked very good on television.  The speech that Barack Obama gave tonight was amazing. He came out firing with all guns blazing. The Democrats finally came out with their messages and Obama looked really good, he is a great orator.

Denver has always been portrayed as a cow town, wanting to become a big city in the likes of Chicago, San Francisco, and Atlanta.  Well after this, it has moved into that status.  Denver is now one of the greatest cities in this country and it the west in the minds of the rest of the country.

Something that I have always known.

Denver has a lot to be proud of.  But there is one thing that need improvement.

While the Denver Police did a great job of protecting everyone, they had a lot of bad incidents that reflected negatively on Denver and the residents here.  It is something they need to improve and improve quickly.

Good job Denver, you should be proud!

Denver Police are giving Denver a bad name – Democrats helping

The Denver Police Department continue to give the City of Denver a bad name. It only escalated today when they arrested a reporter/producer for ABC news who was investigating a breakfast meeting between Democrat Senators and high value donors.

I usually try and give the Police the benefit of the doubt, but they have gone way to far during the DNC.  We have a consitution in this country and the Denver Police and other law enforcement are not following it.

The reporter/producer was standing on the sidewalk and a hotel guard came out of the Brown Palace, who happened to be a Boulder County Sheriff.  The guard then proceeded to push him out into the street.

A little while later, at least five Denver Police officers came back and arrested the reporter.  They say the Brown Palace signed a complaint. How can they sign a complaint against someone who is doing nothing wrong on a public sidewalk?

Originally they wouldn’t tell ABC what he was being arrested for, but then came back and said that he was being arrested on charges of interference, trespass and failure to obey a lawful order.

How can that be?  The video clearly shows that he is on a public sidewalk and he and his crew are not blocking it.

Tuesday, a women was in civic center park protesting when they saw someone getting arrested. They were trying to find out why when a police officer came up and pushed her knocking her to the ground (she alleges that she was hit about four times by the same officer).

The video shows the officer saying, ”Back up, b—-”.  She was then speaking with reporters and the police came up and grabbed her and arrested her.

At least the Denver Police Internal Affairs is investigating and the officer has been reassigned away from assignments that will bring him in contact with protestors.

The Democrats, who play themselves as defenders of the First Amendment, are doing their best to silence the media and the Denver Police are playing into their hands.

As an American, whether or not you agree with what the reporter or the protestor was doing, you should stand-up and defend their right to do so.  It is a basic right for anyone to do so.  Anything less would be un-American.

Font Conference Video from College Humor had me rolling

I know I am a little bit late, it came out a month ago, but I just heard about it and had to watch it.

I was rolling in my chair laughing.  It was hilarious.  This was put together by some really funny people at CollegeHumor.com.

I work with fonts off and on my day in my job and have discussions with people on what we should use on other things.  In addition, we put together some branding for my agency and I was on the team to help with that. The discussions we had on what fonts to use.

This just brings it all together and makes the discussion of fonts funny.  College Humor nailed it!

Rocky Mountain News gets it wrong about FasTracks

The Rocky Mountain News gets it wrong today in their editorial in today’s paper.  Their editorial, “Best of bad options: smaller FasTracks,” calls for cutting the North Metro, Northwest, and Interstate 225 FasTrack lines because the projected ridership is too low.

Well I would have to disagree.  I live up north and I am quite tired of getting the shaft in the metro Denver area.  All the infrastructure development (highways and light rail) are in the central and south.

The commute in the north is now approaching, if not already, the worst commute in the metro Denver area.  On cue, the traffic backs up before 6 AM going south-bound starting at 84th Avenue and is quickly backed-up to 120th Avenue.  Let there be an accident and it it quickly up to 136th or 144th.

It is even worse coming home in the evening, coming to a complete stop at the intersections of I-25, U.S. 36, and I-76.

The I-225 corridor and U.S. 36 corridors are just as bad.

The north metro Denver area has seen explosive population growth, but no improvement in the infrastructure from the powers-that-be.  I would take Light Rail to work from the minute it opened.

I work at the Denver Federal Center.  I have explored taking the bus to work, but there is no good route and it would take me about 1 to 1.5 hours to get to work.  It is just not feasible when I can drive their in 30 – 45 minutes.  Light rail would get me there in a much more reasonable time with a lot fewer emissions.

I am tired of the north Metro area getting ignored by Colorado Department of Transportation and Regional Transportation District.  We pay taxes and deserve highways that aren’t always congested and a light rail system to help us get around.

By putting in the light rail to the north, I-225, and U.S. 36 corridor it would help take traffic off the roads, prolonging their life, and clean the air.  There is proof that people like Light Rail.  As soon as a line opens up, it is at capacity.

Maybe RTD and CDOT should partner with Regional Air Quality Council to develop more stable financing and other potential ways to cover the skyrocketing, which shouldn’t be blamed on RTD because the costs are rising much faster than thought would happen or was expected, while preserving FasTracks as envisioned by the voters.

Now don’t get me started about the city of Golden doing everything in their power to prevent the completion of the beltway around the metro Denver area.  They are a player in this community and the completion of this section of beltway will help reduce traffic and meet the air quality standards.

With the Democratic National Convention in Denver this week, the Democrats should step up and offer to help push through money to help complete this project and provide alternative transportation opportunities for metro Denver.

RTD, CDOT, Regional Air Quality Council, and Denver Regional Council of Governments need to come together and solve this conundrum.

Apple Grants 60 Day Extension to Mobile Me

Just received an email from Apple and if you had a Mobile Me account by August 19, you will receive a 60-day extension.

We are working very hard to make MobileMe a great service we can all be proud of. We know that MobileMe’s launch has not been our finest hour, and we truly appreciate your patience as we turn this around.

I think this is a good development.  Mobile Me has not had a really good launch and there have been a lot of problems.  I think this extension is a good gesture to those of us who subscribe to Mobile Me.

I just wish my work didn’t block access to it so I could get my email during the day.  I guess I will have to get an iPhone.
