UI Men’s Baskeball Coach George Pfeifer Fired

University of Idaho Men’s Basketball Coach was fired today after two years of leading the helm. It is tough to see an alum and a nice person go, but changes had to be made.

As the search goes on, it will be interesting to see who is interviewed and who is hired.

According to the Idaho Statesman, alum Dan Monson is not interested. But several names are being mentioned.

mong the names that might crop up for the job: Don Verlin (Utah State assistant), Gib Arnold (USC assistant), Ray Giacolleti (Gonzaga assistant) and Leon Rice (Gonzaga assistant).

One name that is not being mentioned in this group is Jeff Hironaka of Seattle Pacific. He is a recruiting fiend and knows the Northwest and he is a native of Weiser, Idaho. He has done a tremendous job at Seattle Pacific and I think deserves a shot at being the next coach at Idaho.

Let’s get a good coach in and bring this program back.

As Campaign Drags On, Aides Put Lives on Hold – New York Times

This is an interesting look at the campaign to be the Democratic nominee and the personal toll it is taking on the staff and reporters that are covering it for their respective outlets.

I don’t think that this is going to end anytime soon and it has to be tough on the staffers. But, not to sound callous, but they choose this. It is an intense and extremely busy job and you have to be going 24/7 to try and get your candidate elected.

For the reporters, I think the media outlets should have the opportunity to get some of them a break. It is going to be busy several months until the Democrat National Convention in Denver and then it is right into the General Election. It is going to be a long few months and if the outlets want quality work, they need to get them a break.

A fun day for our family

Well it was a fun day for my family. We were taking it easy and I had
left to run some errands.

My wife and son were upstairs and my daughter was dancing ballet
downstairs when something went crash and my daughter was pinned by a
crendenza.

How this thing fell, I don’t know, this thing is heavy and we can barely
move it. We haven’t been able to get it out of here.

Well now we are at Childrens Hospital of Denver Urgent Care Center
getting her leg checked out. She is moving it around and can walk on it.
It is just sore.

She is even laughing and sitting up on her knees. I don’t think much is
wrong.

Needless to say that I will be securing this thing to the wall. What a
way to end a weekend.

We are getting to know the Urgent Care Center in Broomfield to well. Our
son knew too well where to go.

The Problem With the 2008 Summer Olympics is China

China will be hosting the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing and the main problem with the Olympics this year will be China itself.  The conflicts and controversy are already starting with the pollution, the conflict in Tibet, and the culpability with the Sudanese government.

In Beijing itself, the biggest challenge is the pollution in the city and how it is going to effect the outdoor sports.  The pollution in Beijing is one of the worst in the world and already caused problems with the Women’s World Cup last summer.

The Olympic Chief, Jaques Rogge, is even admitting it will be a problem.  “People are beginning to come to terms with the fact it could be a major issue. Rogge said that some of the endurance events may be postponed and that would be disaster for the organisers.”

The pollution stems from a tremendous number of new cars on the roads and from the coal factories fueling the growth in China’s economy.  They are doing their best to work on reducing the pollution by reducing vehicle traffic in Beijing and by curbing emissions from coal plants, but there hasn’t been much improvement. 

They tried to ban cars for four days in the city earlier this year and it did not work to reduce pollution. Continue reading →

Both University of Idaho Basketball Coaches Deserve to be let go…

I just want to say that both University of Idaho basketball coaches deserve to be let go from their jobs. Their performance over the last couple of years has been horrible, if not embarrassing.

During my tenure at the University of Idaho, 1990-1993, Idaho was always at the top of the Big Sky, drawing huge crowds, and always competing against bigger schools.

I remember a couple games in the Kibbie Dome where the University of Idaho played Washington State University and there were over 8,000 people in the Dome to watch the game. It might have been closer to 10,000, but not sure. It was fun and what a college experience should be watching a college basketball game.

The Dome was so loud for the games against Boise State, that you couldn’t even hear your friends speak. It was great!

But the basketball programs have been horrid the past several years and since Idaho has moved up to the WAC, they haven’t been able to compete against the likes of Washington State, Boise State, & Gonzaga. They can’t blame it on location because Washington State has done quite well in the recruiting arena and they are only 8 miles away. Continue reading →
