Rockies game on a Sunday afternoon

At the Rockies game. We are getting ready for the first pitch.

Why you need to pay attention at baseball games…

Woman gets stitches after Taveras’ foul ball nails her in face

This is the perfect example of why you need to pay attention when you are at a baseball game. A women sitting behind first base took a foul ball on the chin from Willy Taveras of the Colorado Rockies.

She was checked out at the ballparks first aid station and then taken to the hospital for stitches.

This is why when you are at the baseball game you need to pay attention and possibly take a glove. Balls are coming off that bat extremely fast and have spin on them.

Major League Baseball does its best to protect fans, but it can’t do everything.

Colorado Rockies have great television commercials

The Colorado Rockies have great television commercials. The ads are produced in-house and are quite creative. Last years were pretty funny, especially the high altitude baking one.

But they have gotten a lot better this year since the Rockies won the National League last year.

The stars one makes fun of themselves, the Tulo takes advantage of the Tulo chant, Holliday touched it makes a play on words from the play-in game last year, and the best of them all is Spillbourghs’ Spilborghs’ seed lessons.

Go take a look.

A good day for Colorado sports

Well it was a good day for two of the professional sports teams in Colorado, the Colorado Avalanche and the Colorado Rockies.

The Colorado Avalanche came back from a 2-0 deficit to score four straight goals to defeat the Vancouver Canucks 4-2 to clinch a spot in the Stanley Cup playoffs.  Peter Forsberg scored his first goal of the season and they looked pretty good through the second half of the game.

The Colorado Rockies had a re-do and beat the St. Louis Cardinals 2-1.   The original opener was rained out after the St. Louis Cardinals had opened up a 5-1 lead.  Thank goodness for the rain.

Let’s hope the good news continues for these two teams as the spring continues on and into the fall for the Rockies.

Tulo loses NL Rookie of the Year, baseball biased against Rockies

Well the east coast bias is in full force in Major League Baseball and it is hitting the Rockies hard.

Today, Troy Tulowitzki lost out on the National League Rookie of the Year to Milwaukee Brewers slugger Ryan Braun. Braun received 128 points in the Rookie of the Year balloting while Tulo received 126.

Braun had some good offensive numbers (34 HRs, .324 average, and a slugging percentage of .634), he was horrible on defense with 26 errors at third base. Braun only played with the Brewers since May.

Tulowitzki played throughout the entire year, hit almost .300, had more rbi’s, and more at-bats. In addtion, Tulo was incredible at shortstop. In an article on the Denver Post website, “Tulowitzki led all major league shortstops in fielding percentage (.987), chances (834) and assists (561), while making just 11 errors.

Rockies Tickets, anyone?

Rockies tickets, anyone?

This is a great opinion column in today’s Rocky Mountain News that addresses the ethics of what the Rockies did and how the Rockies handled distributed tickets.

From a business and public relations standpoint, the Rockies messed up.  They limited the tickets to a few who could get in to the computer system.  It created a lot of unhappy people.

From what I understand what happened, once people got in to purchase tickets, they could stay in there and purchase tickets.  This alienated many of the Rockies fans who for some reason were unable to get in. Continue reading
