US Attorney Firings

I am wondering what the big deal of the US Attorney firings that has been popping up around the media lately.

These US Attorneys serve at the pleasure of the President.  There are many people in the Executive Branch of the Federal Government who serve at the pleasure of the President.

It does not matter if they are doing a good job or not, if the President does not want them there anymore, they are not employed anymore.

If you look back at it, President Clinton got rid of more US Attorneys than President Bush has.

The only question is could the administration and Attorney General Gonzales handled it better?  Absolutely.

It will only be a matter of time for this to settle down.

Evernote

Well I just downloaded Evernote and I am going to see how this will help me keep up with things.

For work, I have been trying paper copies of notes, but I don’t have time to capture them and synthisize them so I can search and capture them. Paper is not really working.

So I am going to give it a try and see how it works. Try back here later to see how I am doing.

Pelosi Can’t Control House Democrats

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) can’t get members of her own caucus to vote for Iraq war supplemental bill.

So she is getting tough.  She is now threatening funding for districts and seats on powerful committees.  According to a story in The Hill, “It’s tough to get 218 votes, so Speaker gets tough, too“, Pelosi is being specifically tougher on members of the Appropriations Committee and California.

If this is any sign of the House is run, it is going to be a long two years.

Hopefully, Americans and Congress will see how bad Pelosi and the Democrats are and bring in a new Congress again.

What is all the buzz about Twitter?

Twitter has seemed to taken off in the last couple of months.

From listening to MacBreak’s discuss Steve Jobs keynote at MacWorld and Twitter working its way into the conversation to recent podcasts and news discussing it today, including the Wall Street Journal’s Tech Podcast.

From what I understand about the product, it is a place where people can text what they are doing right now. But why does that appeal to people?

To me, it is just a way for people to be exhibitionists and voyeurs at one time.

I don’t know if I will use it or not. I will keep a watch on it and see if it has worth to me. Right now, I don’t see it.

To get a good understanding of what Twitter is to people, Chris Pirillo posted a podcast about it, “Instant SMS Friend Updates via Twitter.com

Schools Brainwashing Kids?

In Vermont and probably around the country, schools are studying climate change and global warning. But are they studying the science or are they studying popular culture?

According to a an article in the Burlington Free Press, “Global Warming in Schools“, students are testifying before the legislature about global warming, watching An Inconvenient Truth” and “Too Hot to Handle“, and putting on plays.

The problem is that they are only pushing one side of the issue. By pushing one side of the issue they are misleading students and they are brainwashing them to one side of the story. Students need to be presented with both sides of the story or issue and stimulate discussion, more research, and let them form their own opinion.

Also, students should receive good science and information. Not propaganda for one-side of the issue. By showing two controversial movies that exaggerate the issues and make false statements and not the other side that gives information to provide balance, goes further than schools should go.

Now, to fully disclose my standpoint on this issue to be fair. I feel that the climate is changing and humans may be influencing it. But the sky is not falling. We need to do what we can to reduce our use of fossil fuels and greenhouse gases. But we need to study it and use good science.

Schools need to be teaching our students and provoking thought. Not present one side of the issue and ignore the other. The best teachers that I had in school made me think about an issue and fully investigate that issue, form my own opinion, and then write and/or discuss it. This is not happening in Vermont and who knows where else.

Schools, get off your ivory tower and teach our children appropriately.

Linksys Router BEFSR41 Problems

Well I have a Linksys Router BEFSR41 and I have been having nothing but problems with it over the last couple of months.

I had one for several years and had no problems. I would say almost 9 years of working and no problem. But it apparently died a couple of months ago.

I went with a new one and it was a little crazy getting set up. Linksys’ automatic install is worthless, especially when you have another Linksys wireless router on the network.

Well this one did the same thing after about a month. It just completely died. I couldn’t access the admin screen, I couldn’t get to the Internet, nothing. I would cycle it, nothing. Well I hooked up my wireless Linksys router and everything worked fine. So I took it back and exchanged it for another one.

Well this one worked a week and it did the same thing. I figured out there is something else going on so I did some deep searching on the Internet and found a solution on the Linksys site. Apparently there have been some changes on the Comcast cable modems lately and they are putting out a bunch of noise and this overwhelms routers and causes them to constantly reset themselves.

But it can be fixed by changing Filter Multicast to Enabled. If you do this, the noise gets filtered and it works fine.

That is it and I am not having any problems now. Yeah!

Now, Comcast service is another matter….
