The state-wide position of the University of Idaho has long suffered from the distance that exists between Moscow and the rest of southern Idaho. I became so aware of that when I went to work for Dr. Ernest Hartung in the mid-60′s when he was determined to establish the free-standing University of Idaho Foundation. I was fortunate to be a part of that period of time and the great growth of our university. He knew the designation of “Land-Grant” had a special meaning to our state and worked hard to have the recognition of that special designation honored. Then came the “board of higher education” and all of the political efforts to level the “Board of Regents” power within the legislature. They got it done!! And BJC became the center of attention at the expense of a growing and “picked at” university of the north. I was so privileged to serve Hartung from 1965 to 1975 when he was asked to step down — and I left for San Diego State U. I hope so sincerely that our alumni will respond to this “call” to let them know that they are “off base” once again.

I have been working to move all paper files into Evernote. By having the iPad, we’ll be able to move more paper into an electronic world. One example would be recipes. My wife pulls a lot of pages out of magazines and we’ll be able to digitize those.

As you said, it’s a consumption device. By having that, we’ll be able to have a lot more paper digitized that we would usually have around the house.

What’s sad is my son is better at angry birds than I am. He’s getting pretty good and getting around the iPad.

Can you expand on how the iPad will help move less paper around the house? What sort of paper are you referring to?
I think the iPad is mostly a consumption device, that is a device to view/read content on the Internet and not so much a device to generate content except for email…which just about any device can do (laptop/smartphone/etc.)

I’ve heard there are some great games for kids of all ages….so it can be a good tool for educational uses.
But I just don’t understand how it can help move less paper around a house…unless I’m missing something.

Dustin Johnson was robbed, and that golf course is a disaster. If the owners of that place don’t even know how many bunkers exist on the course, how is every player to know how to locate them all? Either define and delineate each one ahead of time and keep crowds off, or do not attempt to determine their existence as the player goes along. Spectators on others courses are not permitted to walk in the bunkers. What’s the problem here? Not enough volunteers? Just don’t care? Stop trying to be cute at the expense of the poor guys trying to earn an honest living!!! This course does not deserve to be the site of any pro tournament!!!
