Neumann Homes, Are They In Trouble?

I am wondering if Neumann Homes is in trouble financially. They have stopped work in our neighborhood, even homes that they are building for someone and not on spec.

We even had a notice of a lien to be placed upon our house because they have failed to pay their contractors.

They have been working. According to a story in the Chicago Tribune, they have reworked their loans and now have $55 million in revolving credit.

It would be nice if they were going to finish our neighborhood, but I am not too optimistic, even with this new money. The new home market sucks and the number of homes on the market because of fraudulent or bad loans leading to foreclosure is crazy.

I just hope the market improves soon so that the remaining lots can be built out and the homes sold. It is just not helping our home value at this time.

WordPress 2.1 Working Well

Well I just updated to WordPress 2.1 and everything seems to be working well.

The only problem that I had was that I had to upload a couple files again to get it to work properly.

But it is worth it and will be interesting to see how this new version works.

It has some pretty cool features but the favorite one of mine is the autosave on drafts.  Too many times I hit the wrong button and poof, my long post is gone.

Online media beat seems to think the same, WordPress 2.1 is here.

A Busy Week in Tech

This begins a busy week in Tech.

Beginning tomorrow the Consumer Electronics Show kicks off in Las Vegas.  This show will run through January 11 and many of this years new Tech gadgets will be released and announced.  It is the 40th Year and over 100,000 people are expected to attend.
It will be interesting to see what comes out.  I would like to see some more integrated devices and wireless speakers that operate on 802.11 wireless network.  You can read more on CNET’s Preview of CES.

The other big conference that will have some big announcements will be Macworld.  The highlight of this conference is the keynote by Apple CEO Steve Jobs on Tuesday, January 9.

It will be interesting to see what product announcements he will make.  It sounds like it is pretty sure that he will announce the Apple iPhone and maybe a video iPod.  Who knows.  Apple is always secretive on these keynotes.  But one thing is guaranteed, the presentation will be will produced.

Enjoy the week you tech fans and keep checking back for my thoughts on the announcements.

Avalanche Traps 8, Only 1 Admitted to the Hospital

According to the Rocky Mountain News, only one person was admitted to the hospital in the avalanche that occurred on Berthoud Pass today.  The avalanche happened on what is known as the Stanley run.

There are many avalanche paths that cross Highway 40, but it is unusual for avalanches to come down uncontrolled in this area.  The Colorado Department of Transportation regularly inspects and does control work throughout the whole highway.

But it appears that the wind that came up this morning loaded the starting zone before anyone realized what was going on and could stop traffic and do control work in the area.

I am glad that no one was killed or seriously injured.

More Information on Avalanche in Berthoud Pass

It is now being reported that the avalanche occurred in the biggest avalanche area on Berthoud Pass, the Stanley Run.

It is located on the east side of Berthoud Pass, just south the top of the pass.

Apparently CDOT has been doing control work in the area through the storms and was last done on Wednesday. This morning the conditions were fine, but there was a lot of wind that has come up and depositing snow in those avalanche runs and this may be the cause.

This is all from the spokesman from the Colorado Avalanche Information Center.
