The media revolution
Clay Shirky wrote an interesting post about the changing media landscape.
One interesting quote I found in the story is:
Round and round this goes, with the people committed to saving newspapers demanding to know “If the old model is broken, what will work in its place?” To which the answer is: Nothing. Nothing will work. There is no general model for newspapers to replace the one the internet just broke.
It will be interesting to see how things fall out, but one thing is for sure. There will be a change in the media landscape.
InDenverTimes.com rolls out. I’m In
A new media outlet in Denver was launched today, InDenverTimes.com. This venture was put together by some of the former staff of the Rocky Mountain News and there entrepreneurs.
In order for it to succeed, they will need to have the commitment of 50,000 subscribers by April 23, 2009. The 150th anniversary of the Rocky Mountain News.
The subscription fees are $4.99 a month for a twelve month subscription, $5.99 for six months, $6.99 for a three month subscription.
If they reach their goal, they will launch the site on May 4.
This is an interesting venture and I am hoping it will work. The news on the site will be free, but those who subscribe will get premium content including columnists and other stuff.
I’m In! Are you?
Former Rocky journalists to hold news conference | Home of the staff of Colorado’s oldest newspaper
Former Rocky journalists to hold news conference | Home of the staff of Colorado’s oldest newspaper.
I am looking forward to the announcement tomorrow by the former Rocky Mountain News journalists on what there plans are.
I wonder if it will be a independent newspaper and whether it will be online or online and printed?
Their experience in the Denver area will make them immediately a credible news source to compete with the other media outlets in the area.
It should be a good day in Colorado media.
Jay Cutler Needs to Grow Up and Show Some Class
Tension between Cutler, McDaniels isn’t diminishing – The Denver Post.
I just want to say that Jay Cutler needs to grow up. The NFL is a business and no one is immune to trade talks.
Right now he is being perceived as a cry-baby in a game played by men.
He has the arm and skills to be a great quarterback in this league, but he hasn’t produced the wins or playoff appearances that are needed to be classified as a great quarterback.
Yes he was a Pro Bowl quarterback this year, but he didn’t get it done at the end of the year. He had several opportunities to lead the Denver Broncos to the playoffs this year and failed miserably.
Josh McDaniels and the Broncos have been honest with him throughout the process. Cutler is listening to the wrong people and needs to grow up.
If he wants to prove McDaniels wrong, he needs to do it with the off-season workouts and through next season. Not posturing with his agent through the media.
Grow up Cutler!
Rocky Mountain News coming back???
An interesting headline has appeared on the website iwantmyrocky.com. They are teasing an announcement coming Monday.
KUSA, 9 News announced tonight that a new paid news service will be coming by the staff of the Rocky Mountain News. It will be interesting to see what happens.
Former reporters have been publishing stories on iwantmyrocky.com since the newspaper stopped publishing.
It will be interesting to see what happens. I will definitely be watching on Monday.
Electronics Recycling Event in Denver on March 7
LG Electronics and 9 News along with Comcast, Waste Management and the city of Denver will host an electronics recycling event at five locations throughout the metro area. The event will take place from 7 AM until Noon.
Drop off locations are at the Pepsi Center in downtown Denver, Southwest Plaza in Littleton, The Orchard Town Center in Westminster, The Town Center at Aurora, and Comcast in Inverness.
They will be accepting computers, televisions, monitors, printers, fax machines, consumer electronics, phones, and other computer peripherals. No large appliances. Check the website for more details.
If you take a computer cpu down, make sure you remove all personal information from it. They will make sure it is destroyed so no on can take the data off, but it is also better you take precautions also.
Thanks to LG Electronics for paying the recycling charge.
I will be taking some things and dropping them off. I hope you do too.
