Tancredo to Abandon Presidential Bid – washingtonpost.com

Tom Tancredo, a Republican Congressman from Colorado is abandoning his bid for President.  Tancredo was running on the illegal immigration platform and by running for President allowed him to get the press and coverage he desired to get his point across to the country, that we need to eliminate illegal immigration and prosecute and return to their native country all illegal immigrants.

To me this is something that is impossible and inhumane.  Tancredo’s views are a little off the deep-end and never caught on with the American public.  The new immigration policy, if anyone ever has the guts to develop something and get it implemented, must work to curb illegal immigration while working to incorporate those who are currently here.

We need to work to stop the incentives for coming here.  If we are not able to do that, then we will never be able to curb or eliminate illegal immigration.

The next big question is what happens to Tancredo.  He has already said that he won’t be running for re-election to his Congressional seat.  Is he going to run for the Senate in Colorado?

I happen to think that he is.  He is going to work to keep his message in the conversation and running for the open seat being vacated by Wayne Allard will do that.  The problem is that he is getting a late start for that race.  He also is a real polarizing person and in today’s political climate in Colorado that will not do it.  To get elected in Colorado you need to be a moderate and pull votes from both major parties and independents.

There is going to be a lot of media focused on the Senate race in Colorado this year.  Tancredo just doesn’t have it to make it to the election in November.

Just a side note, Tom Tancredo for President has to be one of the worst website home pages for a Presidential candidate.  It takes too many clicks to get to the information on where he stands on issues. 

Big Head Todd and the Monsters Gives Away their latest album

Big Head Todd and the Monsters is giving away their latest album, All The Love You Need.  For me it arrived in the mail and was made possible locally by KBCO in Boulder and Crocs.  They are also making the album available for free download.

This is the way to market music in the digital area.

According to a press release on their website, they are distributing 500,000 copies through radio stations.  KBCO, their hometown radio station, made 75,000 available.  Other radio stations participating include KGSR (Austin, TX), KPRI (San Diego), KTBG (Kansas City).

In Denver, Big Head Todd is using this distribution to help promote their concert at Red Rocks Amphitheatre on June 7.  This makes sense.  Most of the time, an artist does not make money on their albums, but makes their money on concerts.

I think this is cool.  KBCO is a cool and progressive radio station and Big Head Todd and the Monsters are a progressive band thinking out of the box.  This is the beginning of the downfall of the record labels.

It began with Radiohead and now continues with Big Head Todd and the Monsters.  Let’s keep it coming.

Rory Sabbatini shows his true colors at Target World Challenge

At a charity event hosted by Tiger Woods, Target World Challenge, Rory Sabbatini showed his true colors and withdrew from the event. The problem with this is that he still collected $170,000 for his efforts.

Rory’s withdrawal may not be that above board. He told his agent that he has shin splints and he worked with them all night and couldn’t go today. The problem is that he cleared out his locker on Saturday night and was checking out of his hotel and trying to get a limo to the airport to catch a flight to Maui where he spends Christmas.

He didn’t even inform the tournament director to 8:30 AM on Sunday morning.

I don’t really think that he had shin splints. I think what the real problem is that he was 28 shots behind following the third round.

This is a charity event and he needs to put his best effort for the fans who are coming to watch the event. If he isn’t in to do that, he shouldn’t show up. And he shouldn’t take the $170,000 that he was provided for showing up. He doesn’t win here, the charity does.

I think Fred Couples said it best, “He should give (the money) back to the foundation,” Couples said. “…he’s messing with the wrong guy.”

Suffice to say, I doubt that Rory will be back.

Mateo Restaurant Blows It, Sunflower Restaurant Saves the Evening

This was shaping up to be a fun evening. My sister in-law was in town from New York and the kids day-care was hosting a parents night out so it set up for the adults to head out for a dinner with adult conversation. (Don’t get me wrong, we love our kids, but sometimes it is nice to get out and have an adults night.)

Well my wife and I had been to Mateo in Boulder a couple times and had wonderful experiences. But we hadn’t been there for a couple years and decided to head back and take my sister in-law.

My wife made the reservations and they even called me last night to confirm that we were coming. We dropped the kids off and headed for Boulder.

Well when we arrived, they wanted to sit us at one of their small patio tables that they had brought in from outside. It also had the small uncomfortable patio chairs. Something that I don’t want to sit at or on when we will be having a nice leisurely dinner and spending $150-$200 for the pleasure.

All the other tables are nice with comfortable padded chairs.

Well we tried to get another table and they basically said that the only other thing they had available was the community table. All the other tables were spoken for. We even spoke to who appeared to be the manager or owner and he was not helpful at all.

I have never been so mad or upset in my life when I have gone out to eat. They should not treat their customers like that. If they don’t have a table, they should never have accepted the reservation. Or if someone made a reservation after us, they should have been turned down. It is not professional and does not show respect to us as their customers.

Well we need to find a place to eat, so we headed west on Pearl Street a couple blocks and found Sunflower. What a difference from Mateo.

This is a great movie.  It was intriguing when you didn’t know, but it is a lot more intriguing that you know.  What happens in the future?

That is what is great about good movies.  They leave you hanging at the end, guessing what happens in the future.

Neumann to return deposits, finish some homes

Neumann to return deposits, finish some homes — chicagotribune.com

This is definitely good news for those of us who live in a Neumann neighborhood.  In our neighborhood there are a few homes that were started that were not finished.  There was no home that was not started.

I have seen activity around the homes that were almost done.  It will be nice to see them finished off.  Hopefully it is not too late and they won’t have to tear any of them down.

There are also a lot of workman working at the model home/sales office.  They are removing the last signs of it being an office.

It will be nice to see them done with construction.  Hopefully the spec homes that have not been sold get sold.
