Another Snow Storm Moving Into Denver

Another snowstorm is moving into the Denver area and it is expected to begin after 12 PM on 12/28.

It will be interesting to see what happens and how this one is handled compared to the previous one.  The problem with this storm is that the roads in the neighborhoods have not been cleared completely, there are shortages at the gas stations, and the grocery stores have been running out of the staples – milk, bread, and produce.  Some stores have only received one shipment of merchandise since the last storm.

A winter storm warning has been posted and they are calling for 10 to 18 inches of snow by Friday morning with blowing and drifting snow.  More heavy snow is expected through Friday until Saturday morning.

More on this one as it develops.

UPS Still Not Coming Through

United Parcel Service (UPS) is still not coming through in Denver.  It has now almost seven days since the package arrived at their regional facility here and they still have not delivered it.

I spoke with customer service and they have no clue what is going on or when my package will be delivered.  With another snowstorm bearing down on Colorado, who knows when it will show up.

In an interview published on ZDNET, the UPS CIO said that they will become more efficient and save $600 million a year by “through package flow technologies that include preloading vehicles in the morning, routing drivers according to volume and favoring right-hand turns.”  If they can’t even deliver packages, how do they expect to do this?

I expect them to lose a lot of money on this.

UPS, I WANT MY PACKAGE!

Casino Royale Worth It!

Being a parent, you don’t have much time to sneak off to go to a movie, but I had some time this week and was able to finally see Casino Royale, the new James Bond movie.

I must say it is one of the better Bond movies that have been made. It had a good plot and some fun twists in it.

The plus to me is that they didn’t use the gadgets that were meant to be futuristic. They had good special effects, stunts, and action and I would make it a must see movie.

On a side note, I was wondering why and how much Sony had to pay for all the product placements. But this movie was produced by Sony Pictures so I guess that is why.

Hibernation Ale – A Great Beer

I was looking for some beer over Christmas and to survive the Blizzard here in Denver and stumbled onto Hiberation Ale by Great Divide Brewing Company.

This strong ale has great flavor and packs a punch on the alcohol content.

It is one of the better beers that I have had in a long time. I would rate it up there with the Paulaner Salvatore that comes from Germany.

A good one to get if it is delivered in your area.

Some Sad News…Former President Ford Has Died

I am hearing some breaking news.  Former First Lady Betty Ford has told the Associated Press that her husband and former President Gerald Ford has died, he was 93.

He took over this country in a troubled time and did a pretty good job only to get caught up in the anti-Republican and anti-Nixon election to lose the election to Jimmy Carter.

My thoughts and prayers are with his family in this sad time.

Looks Like Others Are Having the Same Problem…

Gremlin has a pretty good post on his problems with United Parcel Service.  He is getting the run-around also from the customer service reps who have no clue where Colorado is and that it has stopped snowing here.

They also have no clue on where their distribution center is compared to Denver.  For those of you who don’t know, it is two to three blocks from the city boundary with Denver in Commerce City.

Here is Gremlin’s Post, Severe Weather.

Good luck to you Gremlin!

Tech’s 2006 Foot-in-Mouth Awards

Wired News has posted its Foot-in-the-Mouth Awards. Their number one list was President Bush discussing Google Earth. How could they put this first over their second choice, Ted Stevens talk about tubes?

Senator Stevens whole tubes speech was totally idiotic and shows that he really does not have a clue on how the Internet works or how it should be run. Doubly scary is that he was in charge of the committee that oversaw the legislation that would remove net neutrality.

I am glad that this did not pass.
